Two top-shelf Central League showdowns highlight Week 2

Friday marks the start of Central League competition and there are two must-see games on tap.

Ridley (0-0) welcomes Garnet Valley (0-1) to Phil Marion Field, where they haven’t had much success historically against the Jaguars. Interestingly, since the Jaguars joined the league in 2008, Ridley has never won a game at The Phil. Can that change Friday?

The other game to watch pits Strath Haven (1-0) and Springfield (1-0) in a rematch of last year’s District 1 Class 5A quarterfinal. It should be a heckuva clash.

Here are the Delaware County football games scheduled for Friday – ignoring Thursday’s contests, also known as the Let’s Start Labor Day Early games – along with my predictions. All games start at 7 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

Let’s begin with the two biggies in the Central League:
