The best high school football talent in Delaware County will participate in the 40th Hero Bowl All-Star Game Thursday night at Cardinal O’Hara.

Opening kickoff is scheduled for 7:30. Tickets cost $5.

This exhibition of excellence is woven into the fabric of Delaware County high school sports.

The Hero Bowl, featuring the Red and Blue teams, serves an excellent purpose.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Hero Scholarship Fund of Delaware County, Inc., which provides scholarship support to the children of police officers, firefighters and emergency medical personnel who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.

Prior to the game, a moment of silence will be held for Detective Jacai Colson, a member of the Prince George’s County (Md.) Police Department and a former Chichester football standout, who was killed in the line of duty last March. Colson played quarterback in the 2005 Hero Bowl.

Ninety of the top seniors from the Bicentennial, Central, Ches-Mont, Del Val, Philadelphia Catholic and Inter-Ac leagues are slated to compete.
