Dan Connor dodged the Ohio rain and found a quiet place to chat. The first-year Penn State linebackers coach was in his car, on the road recruiting some of the best high school prospects in the country. His mission? Continue the Linebacker U tradition that he helped build.

It’s a tradition the Nittany Lions’ all-time leading tackler takes to heart. It’s one he takes pride in. But it’s not necessarily a tradition he thought he’d be carrying on the way he is.

Where Connor finds himself so early in his coaching career — a crucial cog in the Penn State football machine — is “surreal”. That’s because of the humble journey Connor has navigated since the end of his six-year NFL career.
