The start of the high school football season in Delaware County is right around the corner. Get ready, because the first official practice date for PIAA schools is Monday, Aug. 17.

While the PIAA continues to discuss expanding to six classifications in 2016, the Central League is moving forward with small, but significant changes to its regular-season schedule.

The league scrapped it’s mandatory nine-game season in favor of an optional eight-game schedule.

This opens the door for several “dream” games between successful Delco football programs, without disrupting Central League rivalries.

Let’s get real: Ridley and Springfield has to happen every year. No more every-other-year nonsense. It’s a border war, a game that’s steeped in tradition. You may recall those schools did not meet in 2014, which ticked off a lot of folks. The good news is the rivals play in Week 2, so circle your calendars.
