It’s been decades since Garnet Valley has had to hire a head football coach. The quest for Mike Ricci’s replacement, though, was short work.
The school announced Monday that Eric VanWyk has been elevated from Ricci’s staff to take the helm of the Jaguars, replacing the coaching legend who spent 35 years on the sidelines.
The Jaguars, fresh off the Division I Class 6A crown, were widely expected to hire from within. In VanWyk, they’ve tabbed a coach with deep connections to the district who was a standout on the gridiron.
“Just having the opportunity to take the torch from someone that has been one of the biggest mentors of my life, it’s really exciting,” VanWyk told the Daily Times Monday. “I’m really humbled by it.”
