The shouts from the stands began late in the fourth quarter Friday night.
“Undefeated, undefeated,” was the cry from the Strath Haven fans, and when the final whistle blew and referee Larry Foster held the ball aloft, Haven’s 43-21 Central League win at Marple Newtown was official.
The 2022 Panthers (10-0) had the school’s first undefeated regular season since 2003 as well as a share of the top spot in the league standings.
At some schools, that would be cause for a major celebration and a lot of chest thumping. Coach Kevin Clancy’s program has achieved a large measure of success over the years, which might explain why Anthony Crawford, one of the team’s captains, said, “that’s a small goal we’ve accomplished.
“The ultimate goal,” Crawford, who picked up 136 yards on 16 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns, said, “would be playing six more games, defending the (Class 5A) district title, and playing for the state championship.”
