Strath Haven’s Jahi Curtis got a pat on the shoulder from legendary defensive coach Jim Connor after the Panthers’ 35-0 win over Radnor at George L. King Field on Friday night.

“He played hurt,” Connor said in a tone that conveyed a job well-done. “Yes he did.”

Curtis was modest and didn’t want to highlight the limp in his gait. Instead, Strath Haven’s dominant senior edge rusher/tight end was proud of his teammates for everything they accomplished to ensure another Haven victory. The 6-4, 250-pound Curtis had a crucial pass deflection and contributed to several tackles as the Panthers overwhelmed the visiting Raptors, handing them their first loss of the season.

With fellow defensive end Vince Hales out due to injury, Curtis knew that if he sat out as well, the Panthers would face a significant disadvantage.

“I can’t sit out games, especially when my guy on the other side is hurt right now. Losing both of us would be a lot on the team,” Curtis said. “So, I definitely had to tough it out and play today. I’m just glad it worked out and we won.“
