James Fisher scores one of his five touchdowns for the night.

James Fisher took the toss, turned the corner off right end and the skies over George L. King Field unexpectedly opened up.

That latter act of nature was surely a coincidence. But with the night the Strath Haven halfback had against Garnet Valley, one can’t be too sure that his dominion doesn’t extend to the weather.

Fisher touched the football 13 times in the game. He had 12 carries for 178 yards and four touchdowns, plus a 54-yard TD reception. His last two carries were scores of 50 and 59 yards, an emphatic imprint on a 35-14 win that gives the Panthers the inside line on the Central League title.

Fisher was the difference for Strath Haven (5-0, 4-0). And not in some esoteric, unquantifiable way. His ability to reach paydirt was exactly the kind of big-play threat Garnet Valley (4-1, 3-1) sorely lacked.

“Blocking for him, I’m really just looking four yards, north/south running,” offensive tackle Nick Farabaugh said. “But when he can break one loose, it’s amazing.”
