Luke Mulhern following family lineage as Strath Haven linebacker

By Terry Toohey –

A lot of high school football coaches do not like their quarterbacks playing on both sides of the ball.

Not Strath Haven’s Kevin Clancy. He’s not opposed to his QB playing defense and has done so numerous times, most recently with Sam Milligan in 2021 and 2022 and Jake Fisher in 2018.

Senior Luke Mulhern will be doing that this season for the Panthers, although Mulhern’s situation is a little different than either Milligan’s or Fisher’s, both of whom played defensive back in addition to quarterback.

The 6-1, 185-pound Mulhern is an inside linebacker, not a DB. He’s closer to the line of scrimmage, plays a more physical game and has to deal with offensive linemen who can outweigh him by 100 pounds or more.
