As a quarterback, first at Archbishop Carroll and later at Ursinus College, Steve Honick always played with a chip on his shoulder. Whenever someone doubted his abilities, he made it his mission to prove them wrong.

While leading a one-win team during his senior year at Carroll in 2016, Honick was a star. He shattered single-season school records, throwing for 2,043 yards in 2016, which is a mark that still stands.

This week, Honick returned to his roots as the new head coach of Archbishop Carroll, taking over for Kyle Detweiler, who stepped down in November after seven seasons.

By the time Honick reached college, he understood his limitations as a player. After two years at Ursinus, he transferred to West Chester University to serve as a student assistant under legendary head coach Bill Zwaan, who retired in 2023 after 20 seasons. Honick later joined Temple University’s staff as a graduate assistant.
