After a season-opening disaster, Chester has seemingly righted the ship. The 31-0 loss to Perkiomen Valley three weeks ago could have set the tone for the entire 2023 season, but the Clippers responded positively to the embarrassing defeat with wins against Cheltenham and Phoenxville.
While the Clippers aren’t on the record-setting scoring pace they were a year ago, first-year head coach Dennis Shaw has to be pleased with the overall progress. Following the Perk Valley game Shaw vowed that his team would find a way to get it together. The Clippers have not disappointed.
Chester begins its quest for a second straight Del Val League championship Saturday morning. The home battle with Interboro is among several intriguing matchups in Delco this weekend.
Penncrest at Strath Haven >> The Lions hung tough with Garnet Valley last week, but suffered their first loss of the season. Meanwhile, the Panthers (3-0) rallied from 13 points down in the fourth quarter against Ridley to claim a 21-20 victory. James Fisher’s five-yard TD run tied it and Ben Milligan drilled the extra point to give the Panthers a one-point lead with 1:19 to go.
Prediction: Strath Haven 28-21
