Sa’Mhad Williams is a freshman. You would never have known it by watching him Friday night.
In his varsity debut, the Chester running back ran for 187 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries, leading the Clippers to a 22-10 victory over Strath Haven at George L. King Field.
Williams ran with the confidence and physicality of a much older player, often shedding the first tackler and turning ordinary plays into chunk gains. His biggest runs came when Chester needed them most.
For Williams, the performance was beyond anything he expected when he walked onto the field for his first varsity game.
“No, no, I didn’t,” he said. “But I came out here and got the work done, and did what I had to do.”
The Clippers opened the scoring with 5:44 left in the first half when Williams broke loose for a 33-yard touchdown. He added the two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead.
