As we approach our first away game we think it’s important for our Strath Haven Panther fan base and viewers to understand video streaming’s positives and negatives.
The good news is the possibility of streaming live video over the Internet is getting better every season.
The bad news is that video streaming involves a significant increase in bandwidth and using a hotspot device for broadcast is somewhat unreliable.
In the friendly confines of George L. King Field we have a direct Internet high speed hard wire line which is wonderful. Very few schools offer any type of hard wire for visiting broadcasters (although that might change) so we rely on our hotspot device.
The nature of hotspot use is that as the local tower becomes more congested the bandwidth slows down. If it slows down enough it can stop our signal and even disconnect us. There is nothing we can do about it. We will continue to try to reconnect. We usually can reconnect but it can happen multiple times during a game.
If you are watching, and you lose our signal, we can only ask for your patience and understanding and hope that any connection failure doesn’t occur at a critical moment. You should be reconnected automatically when we get the signal back on.
We have over 1500 people watching our broadcast for most games and we think that’s wonderful! We just wish, during away games, we could be more confident in our ability to offer an uninterrupted broadcast.
