Wind was ripping through George L. King Field Friday night as Strath Haven hosted Haverford. It seemed the perfect setting for two Central League teams known for their physicality to slam into each other. And boy, did it deliver.
The Panthers outlasted the Fords for a 28-14 victory clinched by two touchdowns in the game’s final two minutes.
It was a brutal test of wills between two squads eager to prove who could own the second half after a rough-and-tumble first half.
“Coming out in the second half, they were very physical and moving the ball really well,” Panthers defensive lineman Zach Milligan said. “They’re a well-coached team, but we realize that this was it. We know we had to play with teams that are as physical as this if we want to compete for the Central League title. We had to step up, match their physicality, and even take it one step further.”
Milligan was one of several Strath Haven players to step up, registering two sacks. Nothing came easy for either team. With the game knotted at 7 to start the second half, Haverford struck the first blow.
