On Friday, November 7, the Strath Haven Panthers varsity football team (8-2) took on the Unionville Longhorns (7-5) in the second round of the PIAA District 1 5A playoffs.
The first quarter of the Friday night blackout game went by quickly, with both teams scoreless. Haven built momentum by the end of the first, making it to the goal line going into the second quarter.
This led to a touchdown on a quarterback sneak by senior Luke Mulhern at the beginning of the second quarter, putting 7 points on the board for Haven.
Haven’s defense, however, would falter against the Longhorns’ offensive attack. The Longhorns scored within the first few minutes of the second quarter, tying the game up 7-7.
“We saw some things [that we struggled with], and we’ll go back and work on some fundamentals,” head coach Kevin Clancy said. “We knew we were up for a challenge tonight, and I thought the defense hung in there, persistent, and did a great job.”
After the Longhorn score, Haven picked it back up on offense with big gains in the rushing game.
