The start of the high school football season Friday night promises to be an especially emotional time for new Interboro coach Pat Fisher.
It’s not just the usual nerves that come with leading a team for the first time. For Fisher, his debut will be even more special as he takes the field at the Bucs’ home, South Avenue Athletic Complex, to face his alma mater Strath Haven and former coach, Kevin Clancy.
“i don’t know if it’s excitement, anxiety or just a mix of all of it together. I don’t know how to describe it,” Fisher said. “It’s an honor where I get to coach against two people (Clancy and defensive coordinator Jim Connor) who taught me so much. Those are two guys that since I was a little kid, I’ve been learning football in some way for them. It’s more of an honor, excitement to it.”
Fisher was the only new head coaching hire in Delaware County this past offseason. He played college football at Pitt, and recently was an assistant at Imhotep Charter, which captured the PIAA Class 5A title a year ago. His Imhotep teams twice defeated Strath Haven in the state playoffs.
