Archbishop Carroll’s trek to a PIAA Class 3A championship continues Saturday afternoon as the Patriots travel to rural Pennsylvania to Danville Area High School. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 o’clock.

This will be no easy task for the Carroll, a first-time state tournament participant that was given a spot in the postseason after Catholic League compatriot Neumann-Goretti had to forfeit its berth due to a coronavirus outbreak.

Nevertheless, the Patriots showed they belong in the tourney by winning their District 1-12 sub-regional against New Hope-Solebury of the Bicentennial League last Friday, Led by quarterback Nick Lamey’s 264-yard, three-touchdown performance and wide receiver Malachi Hansen’s nine catches for 190 yards and a TD, the Patriots totaled 388 yards of offense en route to a 34-28 victory.

This should be a fun battle of run-heavy offenses. Although the Cougars (2-1) tasted defeat for the first time, running back Jayden Baiden continued his stellar senior campaign with 158 yards on 28 carries.

Springfield quarterback Jake Rama hooked up with seven receivers and hard-nosed fullback Jack Clark rumbled into the end zone on a short run. Rama was 16-for-24 for 118 yards and connected leading wide receiver Robby Longo on five passes for 52.

The Panthers (2-1) averaged a 19.5 yards per carry in the 63-6 rout of Harriton. Christian Mazur led the way with 128 yards and two TDs on just four carries. Jaris Adams added 82 yards and two scores.
