Paul Tagliaterra was an instrumental part of the football dynasty at Strath Haven, spending 52 years in the Wallingford Swarthmore School District as a teacher, coach and administrator. For 48 years, he coached the offensive line and linebackers at first Nether Providence High and then Strath Haven, with two pupils (Dan Connor and Steven Johnson) who played in the NFL at the linebacker position. He helped the Panthers reach six consecutive Eastern finals, four state finals and win two state championships, a group that collected 94 straight wins against Pennsylvania opposition.
Mark Jordan, a baseball and basketball player at Marple Newtown, coached girls basketball at Sacred Heart and Radnor and baseball at his alma mater and Radnor. He spent 26 seasons on the basketball bench, winning Central League and District 1 titles with Radnor and making eight state tournament appearances. In baseball, he led the 2018 Marple Newtown squad to Delco’s only PIAA baseball championship. The Tigers were runner-up in 2007 under Jordan in his first stint there. He has made five states appearances and won two District 1 baseball crowns. Mark is also the special color commentator for Delcohoops.com game broadcasts during basketball season.
