All of us who attended today’s scrimmage between the 2021 Strath Haven Panthers and West Chester East Vikings (about 350 fans) lucked out with today’s weather. Heavy clouds kept the sun off the crowd most of the time and a breeze found it’s way into the stadium keeping us all relatively cool on this mid-80’s day with moderate humidity.
The Panthers didn’t disappoint with some dramatic plays including two great passes. The combination #4 Sam Milligan to #15 Aiden Sutherland for 70 yards and a touchdown and their second combination for 25 yards was a thing of beauty.
Both first string offense and defense played aggressively and crisply. Very little in the way of muffed snaps or broken plays. The pulling and trapping, end sweeps, quick hitters all looked tight and well run. That’s with good reason as the starting offensive line have all played together for at least the three years and the Panthers have good size up front along with experience and quickness.
Extra-point kicker, #30 Charlie Shankweiller, got in a couple of extra point kicks that looked strong and accurate.
Anthony Crawford #32 has a particularly good day on both sides of the ball and had the hit of the day when he pulled and crushed the defender coming across the line!
The Panthers managed to score three times (one of those by the 2nd string) while EC East really never threatened during the first string scrimmage but the Vikings 2nd string did manage a long run for a touchdown.
A very good outing for the Panthers and a great afternoon of tuning up before taking on the Interboro Buccaneers next Friday night!
